You don't want to be a wallflower and neither should your business. However, if you are not strategic and consistent about executing your marketing and public relations plan for your business, you could very well end up sitting around waiting for business to come to you. When it comes to getting the word out about your business venture, persistence and patience are key. Sprinkle these with a little creativity and a whole lot of faith, and you are bound to eventually be successful.
Where does a new business, young entrepreneur (or a seasoned business wanting to improve profits or secure new clientele) begin? At the beginning!! And where is that, you might ask?
- Create a need-Regardless as to whether the product or service you are offering is one that other companies are offering also, you must think long and hard about your offering and how you can distinguish your business from all the others. You have to show (prove to) people that it’s not necessarily what you are offering as much as it is how well, or how much better what you are offering is going to fulfill their needs and improve their quality of life. There aren’t too many business ideas or services out there that someone else is not already offering. Make yourself unique.
- Position yourself well-Marketing/true marketing includes positioning (how your offering is established in the perception and minds of clients and potential customers). Do anything and everything (legal) that you can think of that will get you in front of potential customers and then, present yourself and your company in the manner in which you want those customers to remember you.
- Mix and match you marketing efforts-Don’t get caught in the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” mentality that so many small business owners find themselves. Either out of fear of exploring new ways of getting the word out about their business or simply sitting and waiting for one marketing effort to bring in profits, many business owner stay stuck on one means of marketing their business. Be creative, yet be sincere and your efforts will eventually pay off.
- Develop realistic goals-Take the time to sit down and decide what you want to accomplish by being in business. From there, develop mini-goals that will assist you in remaining on task and on point in reaching those goals. Set benchmarks for your goals and don’t be afraid to revisit and restructure those goals as you need to or as your focus and direction might change (as it so often does for true entrepreneurs).
- Know what works-If after trying various types of marketing and public relations ideas, you find that one or two provide you with the most return on investment (ROI), target those efforts as the ones to place added emphasis.
- Copy your competition-Closely follow the successes of your competitors and then implement similar (but much better) marketing efforts. Often, a simple twist in what someone else is doing will parlay into tremendous success for you and your company.
- Trust your intuition-Usually if it feels right…deep down inside, then it most probably is right. If your entrepreneurial guts are telling you something, listen and follow.
- Remain faithful and confident-As an entrepreneur, you must develop thick skin to weather the ups and downs which come with working for yourself. Although you can quit, throw in the towel, and give up when things get tough, DON’T! You will defeat the whole purpose of deciding to become an entrepreneur in the first place…the freedom and wherewithal to call your own shots. To be your own boss so you don’t have to tell one (a boss that is), where to take a job and shove it!
- Seek out expert advice-Visit as many information packed websites and blog sites as you can and be sure to definitely visit Market2MakeMoney often. Utilize the plethora of information and complimentary advice offered in assisting you and your company to make money!
- Employ the services of a professional-A professional, experienced copywriter and content developer can assist you with the development of show stopping, crowd pleasing, and money generating, sales copy for your website, brochures, newsletters, autoresponders, and more.
The decision to be self-employed, to be an entrepreneur, is not for the squeamish. If you are not willing to stick with the ideal of being your own boss, or if you can’t stand the kitchen when it gets too hot, or if you can’t take the agony of an occasional defeat, ultimately, you will never experience the sweet taste of victory when you finally experience your idea and business venture turning a profit (making money). Regardless as to the literally millions of reasons people choose the entrepreneurial route every day, why bother, if you can’t put a little change in your pocket and perhaps, help someone else put a little bread on the table?
Take the advice of some of the world's most notable entrepreneurs and businesspeople and get going (get charged, get pumped), when the going gets tough! It's well worth the efforts.
See you back here soon!
