How Can Branding Benefit Your Business?

There are many different definitions of what branding is. Business branding encompasses many aspects of your business, from your company logo and tag line, to website design and marketing products color schemes. The most effective description of branding, however, is the name or symbol that is commonly known to identify a company or it’s products and separate that company from its competition. Branding is the uniquely identifying aspect of your company. It's the oomph that sets your business apart from others and it is what makes your company stand out in a sea of other companies. A well known brand is one which people recognize, often without actually knowing or using your products or services.

How can branding benefit you as a small business, and why should you place any emphasis on developing a brand in the early stages of your business? There are numerous reasons, but perhaps a few of the most important are:

1-RECOGNITION AND LOYALTY-When you brand your company, customers are more likely to remember you and what services/products you offer. There is a psychological affect in developing an image that people can relate to.

2-PROFESSIONAL IMAGE-Branding projects an air and image of professionalism and substance to your customers and potential clients. Effective branding will create an image that your company is much larger than it may actually be.

3-PROJECT QUALITY AND VALUE-By branding your company you present yourself as something more than just another business trying to make a buck.

4-EXPERIENCE AND RELIABILITY-Over a period of time, branding causes a perception of experience and reliability.

5-LINKING PRODUCTS AND SERVICES-If your company offers a diverse line of products and services, branding allows you the ability to ensure that customers know that the same quality exists across the board.

As you work to grow your business, keep the future in mind at all times. Plan and develop each aspect of your business with your customer and target market in mind. View your products and services as a potential customer so as to maintain the integrity it takes to experience longevity in the business world.

The Pros And Cons Of Viral Marketing

As you work to grow your business and presence both in the real world and the virtual world, you should take marketing very, very, serious. You can have the best product or service this side of the Chattahoochee River, and yet, if no one knows about you (or bare minimal, if those who would be willing to spend money with you don't know), then what's the point? The marketing and promotions of your business is an aspect of your overall success strategy which should not just be a few newsletters, emails and fliers, haphazardly developed and delivered.

Enter: VIRAL MARKETING! "What?" say you, is that? Well, in a nutshell it is any marketing opportunity that can be utilized to exponentially place your product, service and business before literally millions of people...if done correctly and with some forethought. It is an effective means of branding and developing an impression in the minds of an audience. I say "an" audience, because the nature of viral marketing somewhat diminishes your ability to control your exact target market. This can be both a good thing and a bad thing. A viral marketing plan is one that does inevitably has cons, however, the pros greatly outweigh them.

The viral marketing tools available to you are numerous. As a savvy business owner, you should research and take advantage of newsletter and email campaigns, Podcasts and viral videos. Although the Internet is indeed the Information Superhighway, the average person enjoys getting information, without much effort of thought. This is one reason webinars and viral videos are such a provocative means of advertising. If your concept is creative, and engaging, not only will most people watch your message, but will pass it on to others. In addition, you have to reach them (potential customers), in a variety of ways to connect and engage them. It’ll take multiple efforts like social networking, viral videos and podcasting to enhance or bring out the full message of what your company is all about.

Developing An Internet Marketing Campaign

The Internet can be used as a promotional tsunami...if you want.

Your company's Internet marketing strategy should begin in the planning stages of your Internet marketing campaign. Planning and assessing your plans is key to not wasting and loosing valuable time in launching a productive and profitable Internet marketing and publicity campaign. You have to work to find a happy medium. Too much time spent can be all consuming, while not enough time and effort can cause you to loose out on the endless possibilities of cyberpublicity. One of the beautiful things about Internet marketing is that you have at your finger tips, access to research and information on the demographics, special interests, and spending habits of your intended target market.

There are many aspects of consideration when planning an effective Internet marketing campaign, however, a few of the most important considerations should be:

1-Producing an online newsletter. Newsletters are easy to set up and maintain. You can either purchase list server software, or at bare minimal, utilize one of the many free (or very economical) list servers out there. The beauty of using a list server to get your newsletter before prospective customers is the fact that if someone takes the time to opt-in, chances are they will actually read your newsletter.

2-Posting to Newsgroups. Although helpful, newsgroups will not serve your purposes if you do not establish a consistent (without spamming) follow up schedule.

3-Announcement Campaigns. These are your direct links to the Internet public. Commercial online services such as America Online, Mindspring, and CompuServe are great places to begin.

4-Family, friends and business associates. Let everyone you know (that personally knows you), that you are trying to get the word out about your business. Ask them to refer you to others and, to discreetly allow you access to their personal email databases. If done properly, you can easily reach thousands of prospective customers a day simply through a well written introductory letter to the family, friends and business associates of your family, friends and business associates.

5-Reciprocal linking. Seek out those business and websites which enhance your product and/or services. Establish relationships where you scratch each others backs in the form of reciprocity.

The Internet has opened a whole new world to small enterprise and aspiring entrepreneurs. With a little diligence and commitment to developing and perfecting your Internet marketing campaign, you can easily reap the rewards of your efforts.

You Are Your Business...Market Yourself Well

You don't want to be a wallflower and neither should your business. However, if you are not strategic and consistent about executing your marketing and public relations plan for your business, you could very well end up sitting around waiting for business to come to you. When it comes to getting the word out about your business venture, persistence and patience are key. Sprinkle these with a little creativity and a whole lot of faith, and you are bound to eventually be successful.

Where does a new business, young entrepreneur (or a seasoned business wanting to improve profits or secure new clientele) begin? At the beginning!! And where is that, you might ask?

  1. Create a need-Regardless as to whether the product or service you are offering is one that other companies are offering also, you must think long and hard about your offering and how you can distinguish your business from all the others. You have to show (prove to) people that it’s not necessarily what you are offering as much as it is how well, or how much better what you are offering is going to fulfill their needs and improve their quality of life. There aren’t too many business ideas or services out there that someone else is not already offering. Make yourself unique.
  2. Position yourself well-Marketing/true marketing includes positioning (how your offering is established in the perception and minds of clients and potential customers). Do anything and everything (legal) that you can think of that will get you in front of potential customers and then, present yourself and your company in the manner in which you want those customers to remember you.
  3. Mix and match you marketing efforts-Don’t get caught in the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” mentality that so many small business owners find themselves. Either out of fear of exploring new ways of getting the word out about their business or simply sitting and waiting for one marketing effort to bring in profits, many business owner stay stuck on one means of marketing their business. Be creative, yet be sincere and your efforts will eventually pay off.
  4. Develop realistic goals-Take the time to sit down and decide what you want to accomplish by being in business. From there, develop mini-goals that will assist you in remaining on task and on point in reaching those goals. Set benchmarks for your goals and don’t be afraid to revisit and restructure those goals as you need to or as your focus and direction might change (as it so often does for true entrepreneurs).
  5. Know what works-If after trying various types of marketing and public relations ideas, you find that one or two provide you with the most return on investment (ROI), target those efforts as the ones to place added emphasis.
  6. Copy your competition-Closely follow the successes of your competitors and then implement similar (but much better) marketing efforts. Often, a simple twist in what someone else is doing will parlay into tremendous success for you and your company.
  7. Trust your intuition-Usually if it feels right…deep down inside, then it most probably is right. If your entrepreneurial guts are telling you something, listen and follow.
  8. Remain faithful and confident-As an entrepreneur, you must develop thick skin to weather the ups and downs which come with working for yourself. Although you can quit, throw in the towel, and give up when things get tough, DON’T! You will defeat the whole purpose of deciding to become an entrepreneur in the first place…the freedom and wherewithal to call your own shots. To be your own boss so you don’t have to tell one (a boss that is), where to take a job and shove it!
  9. Seek out expert advice-Visit as many information packed websites and blog sites as you can and be sure to definitely visit Market2MakeMoney often. Utilize the plethora of information and complimentary advice offered in assisting you and your company to make money!
  10. Employ the services of a professional-A professional, experienced copywriter and content developer can assist you with the development of show stopping, crowd pleasing, and money generating, sales copy for your website, brochures, newsletters, autoresponders, and more.

The decision to be self-employed, to be an entrepreneur, is not for the squeamish. If you are not willing to stick with the ideal of being your own boss, or if you can’t stand the kitchen when it gets too hot, or if you can’t take the agony of an occasional defeat, ultimately, you will never experience the sweet taste of victory when you finally experience your idea and business venture turning a profit (making money). Regardless as to the literally millions of reasons people choose the entrepreneurial route every day, why bother, if you can’t put a little change in your pocket and perhaps, help someone else put a little bread on the table?

Take the advice of some of the world's most notable entrepreneurs and businesspeople and get going (get charged, get pumped), when the going gets tough! It's well worth the efforts.

See you back here soon!
